What is Methyl Acetate?
Methyl acetate is the methyl ester of acetic acid. Methyl acetate, known as Methyl ethanoate and acetic acid methyl ester, occurs as a colourless liquid. It is a flammable liquid with a smell reminiscent of some glues and nail polish remover.
Methyl acetate is used as a solvent in, among other things, adhesives, nail polish remover, paints and lacquers. It is also used to manufacture artificial leather and is an intermediate in producing several different fabrics.
