What is N-Methyl Pyrrolidone?
NMP is a stable solvent with a high boiling point. This colourless substance with a characteristic smell turns yellow when heated.
1-methyl-2-pyrrolidone is prepared by reacting y-butyrolactone with methylamine.
NMP has a variety of applications, but it is mainly used as a solvent in, for example, paint strippers, coating removers, glue, cleaning agents and inks. Essential features of NMP are the high boiling point and stability.
