Sodium gluconate is the sodium salt of gluconic acid. It is a dry white-grey crystalline powder that dissolves very well in water.
Sodium gluconate is widely used in textile dyeing and printing plants. The construction industry uses it as a bonding retarder and plasticiser for concrete. It is also used as a cleaning agent for steel surfaces and glass bottles. Sodium gluconate is also a food additive (E576).
